Sony PSP Slim

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar

Sony finally announced the long-rumored redesigned Sony PSP during its E3 2007 press conference. A recent patent update sparked speculation that the new PSP would have a swivel screen and mobile phone capabilities, but Sony Computer Entertainment president Kaz Hirai revealed a more modest PSP redesign at E3. The new “enhanced-design” PSP is a smaller and slimmer version of the original, with a third less weight and about four-fifths the thickness. Sony plans to phase out the current PSP design and replace it with the new model by September.

The new weight is immediately noticeable as soon as you hold the PSP in your hand. It's so light that you might think that it's missing a battery or doesn't have a UMD inside. Sony was able to slim down the battery size while maintaining the system's 5-hour battery life by decreasing the power draw of the unit. You'll be able to use old batteries from the original PSP to double playing time, but the standard battery cover won't be able to fit over it. Sony will offer a high-capacity power kit that will come with its own PSP cover to fit over the larger battery.

The video output from the new PSP is very watchable.

The difference is really slight, but several GameSpot editors have noticed that the d-pad and buttons on the new PSP provide a little more tactile feedback for a better overall feel. Other changes we noticed include a spring-less UMD retention mechanism and new speaker holes just above the d-pad and button areas. The remote jack has changed--headphones will still work with the regular headphone output, but new systems will ship with a new headphone/remote unit to fit the new remote jack. The memory stick slot remains on the left side--shifted over a bit, but the Wi-Fi switch has moved from the left side of the system all the way to the top of the unit where it's far more difficult to hit accidentally.

The 4.3-inch display remains the same, but the new unit will now include a video output that will let the PSP to output gameplay, movies, and photos to a TV display. The component cable we saw also had audio connectors to offer complete AV connectivity. The actual composite, s-video, component, and D-Terminal (Japan) cables will be sold separately, price TBD. The PSP we tested was able to play back a Spider-Man 2 movie clip at 640x480. The video on the big screen looked sharp with minimal loss.

Sony has doubled the built-in memory from 32MB to 64MB, and the new PSP will also be able to speed up game load times by storing UMD data in temporary memory. The new PSP will also be able to recharge over the USB data connection.

The redesigned Piano Black PSP will make its way into the basic $169 Core pack this September. Sony will offer a $199 Ice Silver PSP in a new Daxter Entertainment Pack that includes Daxter, Family Guy, The Freakin' Sweet Collection on UMD, and a 1GB Memory Stick Pro Duo. Star Wars fans can wait an extra month to pick up a Star Wars Battlefront PSP Entertainment Pack on October, 9th. The limited edition package includes a copy of Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron and a ceramic-white PSP with an image of Darth Vader silk-screened on the back battery cover. Sony currently has no plans to release a ceramic white unit after the Star Wars edition sells out, but that can always change.

Sony PSP Slim

  •     Internal Memory (RAM) has been increaded from 32 MB to 64 MB, so more space for savegames

  •     A video-out port with composite cable for hooking your Sony PSP Slim&Lite up to your TV

  •     The handheld has been reduced by 33%

PS 3

It is the third home video game console produced by Sony Computer Entertainment and the successor to the PlayStation 2 as part of the PlayStation series. The PlayStation 3 competes with Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Wii as part of the seventh generation of video game consoles. It was first released on November 11, 2006, in Japan, with international markets following shortly thereafter.

Major features of the console include its unified online gaming service, the PlayStation Network, its multimedia capabilities, connectivity with the PlayStation Portable, and its use of the Blu-ray Disc as its primary storage medium.

The PlayStation 3 is convex on its left side, with the PlayStation logo upright, when vertical (the top side is convex when horizontal) and has a glossy black finish. PlayStation designer Teiyu Goto stated that the Spider-Man-font-inspired logo "was one of the first elements SCEI president Ken Kutaragi decided on and the logo may have been the motivating force behind the shape of PS3".

The PlayStation 3 features a slot-loading 2x speed Blu-ray Disc drive for games, Blu-ray movies, DVDs, CDs and other optical media. It was originally available with hard drives of 20 and 60 GB (20 GB model was not available in PAL regions)but various sizes up to 320 GBhave been made available since then (see: model comparison). All PS3 models have user-upgradeable 2.5" SATA hard drives.

The PlayStation 3 uses the Sony, Toshiba, IBM-designed Cell microprocessor as its CPU, which is made up of one 3.2 GHz PowerPC-based "Power Processing Element" (PPE) and eight Synergistic Processing Elements (SPEs).The eighth SPE is disabled to improve chip yields.Only six of the seven SPEs are accessible to developers as the seventh SPE is reserved by the console's operating system.Graphics processing is handled by the NVIDIA RSX 'Reality Synthesizer', which can output resolutions from 480i/576i SD up to 1080p HD.The PlayStation 3 has 256 MB of XDR DRAM main memory and 256 MB of GDDR3 video memory for the RSX.
The system has Bluetooth 2.0 (with support for up to 7 bluetooth devices), gigabit Ethernet, USB 2.0 and HDMI 1.4[cn 1] built in on all currently shipping models. Wi-Fi networking is also built-in on all but the 20 GB models, while a flash card reader (compatible with Memory Stick, SD/MMC and CompactFlash/Microdrive media) is built-in on 60 GB and CECHExx 80 GB models.

The PS3's hardware has also been used to build supercomputers for high-performance computing.Fixstars Solutions sell a version of Yellow Dog Linux for the PlayStation 3 (originally sold by Terra Soft Solutions).RapidMind produced a stream programming package for the PS3,but were acquired by Intel in 2009. Also, on January 3, 2007, Dr. Frank Mueller, Associate Professor of Computer science at NCSU, clustered 8 PS3s. Mueller commented that the 256 MB of system RAM is a limitation for this particular application and is considering attempting to retrofit more RAM. Software includes: Fedora Core 5 Linux ppc64, MPICH2, OpenMP v 2.5, GNU Compiler Collection and CellSDK 1.1.As a more cost-effective alternative to conventional supercomputers, the U.S. military has purchased clusters of PS3 units for research purposes.Retail PS3 Slim units cannot be used for supercomputing, because the PS3 Slim lacks the ability to boot into a third-party OS.

PS 4

Sony is not one to rest on its laurels, and with the intense competition in the video game world at present, plans for the PlayStation 4's future release are already being put into motion. In fact not only is the PlayStation 4 getting this treatment, but even the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 6 are in the early stages of planning and conceptualization at Sony's labs.

Although we've yet to see what the PS3 can fully do when really put through its paces (in fact Sony states that games currently on the market are not even close to pushing the system to its full potential), the thought of an even more powerful console looming on the horizon has gamers worried about the holes it will leave burning in their pockets, but giddy at the possibilities of what this new behemoth of a console will be able to pull off. Just imagine the advanced hardware on this thing, it will be insane!

As a result, the question on everyone's mind is, when will the PlayStation 4 see the light of day?!?!? While Sony has not released any official information concerning the system's future launch, the generally accepted release date is pegged as late 2012, which would follow the trend of Sony's previous console generations. The PlayStation 1 was first released in late 1994 in Japan and 1995 throughout the rest of the world. The PlayStation 2 hit stores in 2000, giving the PS1 a retail shelf life of 6 years from its Japanese launch. Likewise, the PlayStation 3 came out in 2006, 6 years after the release of the PS2. Following this trend that Sony has established would give us a late 2012 release for the PS4.

CEO of Crytek Cevat Yerli

Other rumors have also circulated of late which backs up these claims. At a Game Developer's Conference in Germany, the CEO of Crytek announced that his company's development of their next-generation graphics engine, the CryEngine3, will release in 2012, around the same time a PlayStation 4 could launch. Although he stated he had no concrete information that the PS4 would be released around this time, and that even if he did, he would not be at liberty to share that information, he expected this to be the release window of the new system.

Late last week, some brand new information about the PlayStation 4 hit the web. It stems from the website Kotaku who says a source confirmed the PS4 release in 2013, and even provided a codename: Orbis. The name Orbis follows Sony’s decision to name the PSP2 “Vita” with Latin terms. Despite many of the circulating rumors explaining “orbis” to mean “circle, round, or orbit,” and combined with Vita to be, “Circle of Life,” this writer happens to have taken several years of Latin, and knows better. Orbis actually means world, which makes more sense, since a “circle of life” means birth and death. The strict translation of “Orbis Vita” means “World Life” or “The world... [Read more]

While it seems that the web is in a consensus today about a 2013 PlayStation 4 (codenamed “Orbis”) release date, some new information has been released about the processor specs.

Yes, there are a lot of gamers out there who say the PS3 isn’t used to its full capacity; that a PS4 is not necessary yet; but most gamers disagree. Haven’t you ever been playing a game and noticed something jump or twitch in the graphics? That has nothing to do with the game, but with the processor and graphics chip.

But the supposed specs on the PlayStation 4’s processor and graphics chip is heartening. It is said that the PS4 may use the AMD A8-3850 APU and Radeon HD 7670 GPU. Is that a bunch of nonsense to you? If so, we’ll break it down.

The AMD processor is quad-core with a speed of 2.9Ghz, and a graphics chip is already integrated within it. Sony is designing the PS4 to use the AMD APU in sync with the GPU: the Radeon HD 7670. The Radeon GPU is a DirextX 11-enabled card. It has been clocked at 1GHz (yay) with VRAM up to 1GB. That’s a lot of hardcore hardware, the best on the market for PCs currently.

Also, about the Radeon HD 7670: there have been rumors on the web about the Xbox 720 using the Radeon HD 6670. They have nearly identical specs, so the Xbox 720 and PS4 will be very close in terms of graphics (we’re not surprised).

But the place where the PS4 will obviously excel: it’s integration of the APU. Already on the AMD processor is the HD 6650D, which runs lower resolutions than the 7670. In layman’s terms: it will be able to process the baseline specs on games, without touching the more powerful GPU. Two for the price of one, pretty much.

Of course, remember that these are not guaranteed specs on the PlayStation 4, but it would be smart—unless, of course, a more advanced processor comes out before the beginning of next year.

 Sony PSP2

The work of Tai Chiem, this PSP2 render takes advantage of a flexible OLED display that can be rolled around the main electronics core but, when charged, automatically stiffens with minimal bezel surround.
On either end, stereo speakers also do duty as a jog-wheel and camera control, while Cheim has answered many PSP owners’ demands and fitted two joysticks to his concept.  When you’re finished, wrap it all up and you’re left with a mighty portable little gaming device.

Okay, so the PSP12 is unlikely to look like this, never mind the second-generation, but considering how bland Sony’s PSP-3000 refresh was it’s no surprise that designers are putting their minds to tweaking up something far better.  Best of all, every one of the aspects involved is at some level of production feasibility; the large rollable color OLED display may be a bit tricky to find right now, but not so in a few years time.
